Although this band was originally formed in 1979 in Salzburg – Austria, I had never heard of them before.  And to say they released two full albums and one EP between 1986 and 1992, starting with ‘Unchained’ in 1986, followed by the EP ‘Prophecy’ in 1988, on which the single ‘Lady’ featured, single that entered in some European charts.  Finally in 1992 ‘Perfect Inspiration’ was released.  However in 1994 the story ended for Speed Limit. Nevertheless they reunited in 2008, and after some touring began working on a new album in 2009.  If I’m correct this new album was already released in 2010, so it’s a mystery to me why it was again released now.

Although the sound of Speed Limit is rather retro, they deserve this comeback chance.  Their music can best be described as hard rock but swinging between craftier AOR and melodic metal.  As a matter of fact listening to this album brought back memories of 80ies Dutch bands like Picture.

The album also features a 2010 re-recording of the single ‘Lady’.  Hard to say why this single scored some success back in the 80ies, because it’s an average song.

85/100
