Review: CD

Devastating Enemy were formed a couple of years ago in Vienna, Austria. 2009 saw the light of a self-released EP, The Gods Of Reason, and now it’s time for the release of the band’s debut full length, The Fallen Prophet. The line-up consists of former and current members of Ethos, Days Of Loss and Thorns Of Ivy (Daniel Fellner-v, g; Thomas Urbanek-d; Jörg Varga-b; Alexander Kodnar-g), and they’ve been working with Hinterhof Studio’s producer Norbert Leitner (Lords Of Decadence), known from his studio work for Cadaver Race or Shadowcry.

In the vein of their EP, The Fallen Prophet brings a rather traditional, trans-European and hybrid form of modern and melodic but intensive and bold Death Metal. The songs are speedy, thrashing and furious at the one hand, and technically melodious at the other, and this combination seems to work very well. It does not renew, but it’s just written and performed professionally.
Personally I do miss an own identity and more differentiation between the rapid-fire songs. It is a monster, this debut full length, but the modern approach is too catchy and somewhat overdone.
