Leviathan is a five piece band from Bonn, Germany and was formed in late 2007. But it wasn’t until 2009 when the band started to perform live on a regular base. The band draws it’s influences from Death Metal and Melodic Death Metal. But it doesn’t end here, the band also incorporates various other elements like progressive influences and classical, orchestral parts in their music, the band tries to find their own unique sound.
Their latest recording will be released later this month. The final work on it like the mixing will be done at Big Easy Studio and the mastering task was given to Waldemar Sorychta and Dennis Koehne, both well known for their work with bands such as Therion, Grip Inc., Moonspell or Enemy Of The Sun.
The strangest thing about this record is that the band hand to much idead they weren’t able to work out. So they decided to add another chapter to the concept by releasing a follow up EP to the new album. Therefore the album will be named “Beyond The Gates Of Imagination Pt.1”, the EP containing “Part 2” of the concept will follow soon after the new album.
In my opinion this is just milking everyone’s money. Just release it as bonus tracks or wait a year for another album. Apart from that this is actually good music. Lots of variation, lovely melodies (as far as death metal and melodies work together that is). Here and there everything does get chaotic at several times were it doesn’t sound as good as the band intended it to be. Still something to keep an eye (or ear) out for.
86/100
