Powerwolf is quite a promising metal band from Germany, without any doubt. Releasing their last album in 2009, they already proved to become one of the most outstanding acts of the current European heavy metal scene. With their brand new full length album, Blood of the Saints, they prove this to be absolutely true.
Powerwolf beautifully succeeds in combing theatrical styles and metal. In addition, the band supports strong anti-religious texts supported by a bunch of original instruments such as the organ, choirs and a classically trained singer. With all these fantastic ingredients, Powerwolf might be on their way to break through on an international level.
Though Blood of the Saints is not very different from its predecessor, songs as Sanctified with Dynamite, Murder at Midnight and All We Need is Blood really stand out and are beyond impressive. The returning themes concerning vampires, werewolves and other horrific creatures is something which makes it just all that interesting.
With Blood of the Saints, Powerwolf absolutely stands out and proves to be mature and convincing enough to break through in the tough world of heavy and power metal. Their tour with Sabaton should give them a push in the back. Something to look forward to, that's for sure.
