The Austrian fellows of Shadowcast are back with a new album, which is entitled Space Age Revolution. Well, actually 'new' is a big word, since they already released this cyber industrial metal album once last year. According to the band, on this album, you get it all: industrialized guitars, multi-layered synth-sounds, catchy songs and a top-notch production. It has to be said, I have some remarks to add to this. First of all, it's clearly all quite a lot to take, but it's just too much for me. All these different 'odd' elements, turn Space Age Revolution into something way too complex for the average metal fan. It's just incredibly disturbing. Secondly, the vocals nor the production aren't that much reaching their top, far from that. It all sounds very frustrating, which doesn't lose its effect on the listener, if you know what I mean.
During Shadowcast's four year's silence, you could think they would have regained strength to come up with an outstanding album. Unfortunately, only if you like disturbing metal, you'll maybe appreciate Space Age Revolution.Listening to the complete album was almost too much for me. Fortunately, I persisted, but only because I wanted to write an honest review.
On Space Age Revolution, Shadowcast give us eleven cyber-industrial tracks, but it's just not good. They did quite an effort, but they could truly do much better than this! Want to get frustrated though? Buy Space Age Revolution!
