Review: re-release-CD

Le Secret was the debut-EP by Alcest, the main project of Monsieur Neige, originally released in 2005 in just 1,000 copies. Soon, very soon, this stuff was sold-out, thus becoming a sought-after collector’s item. However, this edition isn’t just another re-release. This re-issue consists of both original tracks, yet both appear as well in a re-recorded version. The latter do not differ that much from their original approach, yet the sound is better, and there are some interesting differences / adaptations as well. The duration, for example, of the re-recorded version of the title track is a minute less than the original version, while the original version of Elevation is a little, just a little, shorter. The sound too is much better on the re-recorded songs.
Yet in general Le Secret anno 2005 and the newly recorded songs are very alike, just like so many stuff done by Monsieur Neige, and therefore this first important Alcest-release is a recommendation for those who don’t have the original and for those who do, yet who don’t have the new versions. Indeed, recommended to everyone…
