Band : Fetus In Fetu With musical influences such as the early '90s US Death Metal scene and bands like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide and Suffocation, it shouldn't be surprising to find Aalborg based Danish band playing a brutal and grinding Death Metal themselves! Founded in 2002, the band's music went more aggressive with each line-up change...which actually happened rather frequently. Then, in 2008, singer Michael Bekker entered the fold, and for about 1 ½ years (in which period, in fact during Summer 2009, they even recorded the 3-track demo Parasite Within with producer Rasmus Jakobsen) the band actually had a stable line-up...until bassist Dan Jensen decided to leave in early 2010. Only a couple of weeks later, he'd been replaced by Astor Pallson of local band Hatred Conspiracy (where he plays guitar). A quick learner, he soon added even more aggression to the bass. The band started collaborating with Carsten Brogaard of Revolution Music for artwork and bookings, played at the 2010 Aalborg Metal Festival, and started recording their 8-track debut full-length, self-releasing it in December that same year. In early 2011 a couple of line-up changes led to the current membership of the band consisting of Dekker (lead vocals), Pallson (lead guitar), Johnni Knudsen (rhythm guitar), Lasse Toft (bass) and Hatten (drums). The band claims that over the last couple of years, it has also soaked in influences from the likes of Cryptopsy, Beheaded and Danish Death Metal act Dawn Of Demise...and I'm sure the death Metal fanatics among us will hear where exactly those influences have come in. To me personally, Death and Grind are but occasional pastimes, but pastimes which I usually enjoy very much indeed...as was the case when I was listening to this band's album. Some of the 8 songs (total duration just under 32 minutes) have a second singer adding a screamed growl to Dekker's more basal growl or occasional cleaner vocals. Also, as is usual practice with bands of the '90s era, about half of the songs got the incorporation of short samples from movies. No need to tell you that the guitars move through the songs at high speed, I suppose? Want some audio with the description? Simply surf to (www.) myspace.com/fetusinfetu, where the band posted 3 songs off the album alongside a song off their 2009 demo. See the guys in action? They posted videos for 5 songs (all of which also n the album) from their 2010 Aalborg Metal Festival appearance! Danish and European tours should be in the planning by now, but that possibly for the Fall. 90/100 Tony. |
