Band : Love De Vice Poland seems to have a pretty healthy music scene as far as progressive rock acts go. One of the latest additions to the list are Love De Vice, a sextet from Warsaw, the capital of the country Now, I have listened to their newest Numaterial and I must say that it's quite good. It's a pleasant album of melodic (70s) hard rock, often stretched to (symphonic) prog, without the pompous nature that so many bands have. While I do find some of the hooks and vocal lines to be a bit mediocre, the honest play and genuine passion of the band salvages even the weaker parts. When the band clicks on all cylinders, they really know how to write a great song. Nearly every track here is excellent, with "Love or illusion" with sitar and Korean ethnic drums, “With you now” , “Heavy cross” and "Letter in A minor” with string orchestration, perhaps standing out just a tad more. On instrumental level, these talented musicians give free rain to all their compositional imagination and abilities, with an impeccable good taste and finesse, constituting a tight and experienced team. As an example of the 70s rock side of the album, I would like to quote the track, “Love or illusion”, which immediately triggered memories of Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti-album. Ozzie’s clear register voice works so well with the music. Guitarwise, these guys write some smart two guitar patterns that have a lot of depth and intelligence. The longest 13-minute track “Letter In A minor” is an example of how they use good solos to really push the song up an echelon or two. No matter if you listen to Spirits Of The Dead, Wicked Minds, Wishbone Ash or even Riverside you'll probably get the same positive warm vibes from this one. 90/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
