Lake of Tears is a Swedish metal band that brings a combination of gothic and doom, but also aren’t strangers to use other influences like progressive and psychedelic rock. Lake of Tears was founded in the early 1990s by Daniel Brennare, Jonas Erikssin, Johan Oudhuis and Mikael Larsson. The band broke up in 2000 amid creative differences, but reunited in late 2003 followed with the release of the acclaimed album “Black Brick Road”.
And fans will be rejoiced, after 4 years of waiting since “Moons And Mushrooms” their latest album “Illwill” is finally out and yours to check out. The 10 song counting album last just over 40minutes and is filled with exactly what they promise; progressive doom/gothic metal and psychedelic rock.
But I’m not that impressed to be honest. Although there are a couple of songs, or even just a few riffs here and there that have a certain cool feeling to them (like you want to know how to play that riff). But my issues lie within the sound and vibe that the band creates, or not. For a band with “doom” elements, it’s really hard to find these. When you compare to other bands, you mostly get epic and scary sounding moments (like there is something bad to happen), but this record doesn’t sound like anything like that.
