Dalriada is a Hungarian folk metal band, and was formed in 2003. They were formerly known as Echo of Dalriada until 2007, but going professional they wanted something shorter and more powerful. But it wasn’t until their fourth studio album Szelek in 2008 when they really got noticed. That album was a chart success in their country, peaking at the second position on the official music charts.
And although they are well known in Hungary, the rest of the big world is following step by step. For example, the band has been nominated for the greatest Hungarian music award. They had a great success on almost every summer festival, and they are getting invitations from abroad more and more often.
Keeping in mind that this is folk, I gave it try. If they are getting so much awards and getting asked to play they must be something special about them. It has its typical folk melodies combined with metal elements like the rest of them in this genre, but brought very well.
Now the biggest problem is that the whole record is sung in their native language and you probably wont understand anything they are saying/singing, (like death metal screams weren’t understandable enough). For the rest keep in mind that its folk, this probably isn’t for everyone as those flutes and bagpipes can make people go nuts.
