Darklight Corporation is quite a new band. This band from New Zealand released their first album in 2008 and defined themselves as being a 'modern metal band' at the time. Now, let's keep it real: 'modern metal'? Really? Another genre? How should we define this new genre? Does this make all other metal old and done? Fortunately, while listening to the band's second and new album Pitchblack, it becomes immediately clear what's being meant with this term: the music that Darklight Corporation bring is hard, heavy and (which probably makes it 'modern') industrial. This last part makes the music very accessible and even pop-influenced and this is far from a shame. Don't expect to hear anything Britney-like, it just sounds a bit poppy from time to time. This experimental element on Pitchblack is far from light, quite on the contrary. It makes it sound all a bit heavier. Just lend your ears to songs such as Scar My Eyes, The Fallen, Crazyhorse and Levitate. These tracks immediately show what Darklight Corporation stand for. This music makes you want to dance, mosh and headbang at the same time. Don't be surprised if you find yourself moving along with the music, for this is quite likely to happen.
With Pitchblack, Darklight Corporation might just succeed in making it over to the rest of the world. With this new album, this shouldn't be a problem.
