CD REVIEW Jolie Holland

Band: Jolie Holland
Album title: Pint Of Blood
Label: Anti - Epitaph

Release date: 27/06/2011
Release: CD

Although she's called Holland, this lady has no connection to the Netherlands what so ever. This American artist just released her fourth studio album, called Pint Of Blood and she has really done all the creative work herself. She created the watercolor, which is the cover of the album, she wrote her own lyrics and she played all the instruments herself.
The fact that she wrote all the lyrics herself makes most of the songs very personal and by this, some situations she sings about are quite recognizable to some people. A beautiful example of this can be found in the third song, which is called Tender Mirror.
Don't expect any fast and catchy rock songs on this one, but some very soft rock music, especially influenced by blues and jazz. I guess the most up tempo song is the first one, All Those Girls, and even that one is very calm. Don't be afraid, you won't fall asleep while listening to this record, you will rather be enchanted.
