Band : Ancestors It's not often that we get the opportunity to use the word beautiful to describe a CD here at Concreteweb, but beautiful is the word that best fits the new material by Ancestors. The CDEP keeps a laid back mantra-like atmosphere that by times reaches the edge of brilliancy. The use of simple, slow and melodic bases of piano and acoustic guitars, some violins give magic feelings and an everlasting presence of sadness is touchable. Invisible Light tries to catch the essence of beauty, loss and despair and does it in a great way, making the listener a true accomplice of its dark and hidden emotions. The title track and “Dust” sets the bar, leaving the listener wallowing in an atmosphere of despair, yet while feeling completely tranquil and inspired. My personal favorite track is the longest “Epilogue”. This follows the formula that the previous tracks followed, but.the monolithic trudging keyboard part at around eight minutes in, coupled with the spaced out lead tapping with the tear shredding solo is surely the highlight of the album for me. It will hold your attention throughout its entire running time but would be so much better if there were some images to go along with it ... background music for a film scene. Cosmicmasseur. |
