Fuzz Manta are a four piece Danish band who play a style of 70s style rock that takes on a very bluesy feel with their music. The band exists in the same heavy rock’n’groove territory as Highway Child or Blowback and plunders forth in the mode of a more psychedelic Purple/Heep. There are also hints of Zeppelin III particularly in the moody feel of “Quiet Monday”, by far one of the sweetest songs on the CD.

The in fact what I think is the strongest characteristic of Fuzz Manta is the playing of Fredrik Jenssen. He has ample opportunities to shred and he really comes out with excellent aggressive and melodic riffs and solos. Aside from Jensens’s extended rock riffing, it prominently features the very good lead vocals of Lene Kjaer Hvillum who affects a bluesy-wailing pose along the lines of Candy Givens (Zephyr) or Sanya (Siena Root).

The songs are fresh, energy-driven and the latter ones are for sure the best. One of the best is the last and longest track “Let me walk” because of its use of trippin ‘voodoo chile’ jammin’ and the cymbals in the background. It really adds to the overall atmosphere.
