Band : Sungrazer I just love a good three-piece band. If three guys can pull off a sound that most bands struggle to create with 4 or 5 members, I am in eargasm heaven. Trios just have that raw, barebones, no bullshit feel that I like. Sungrazer out of Holland is such a band. After the debut release Sungrazer last year which received a lot of good reviews worldwide, Sungrazer are proving with their new album, that they are now one of the most promising heavy psych acts today. The sound of Sungrazer has not changed compared to the debut, it still is fuzzy stoner but the compositions definitely have matured a lot and a more powerful production adds its charm to the melancholic psychedelic meanderings of the Maastricht-based trio. They do not really deliver anything groundbreakingly new in this genre, yet the quality they offer us here is nothing short but amazing and you can hear, that the musicians want to create their own blend. "Octo" has a good drive and makes you feel like you could run through a brick wall, lots of power in other words. On songs like "Sea"and “Wild goose” they are simply great and should be listened to everyone that likes it downtuned and catchy. The vocalists, named Rutger Smeets and Sander Haagmans, share the vocals between them and makes sure the vocal part of the album never turns into boredom. “Behind”’s dirty groove is perfect to have a smoke, have some sex, and then chill out to on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Actually, the whole Miradoralbum is. If you want to compare them with other stoner bands, then you can find Sungrazer somewhere between Colour Haze, My Sleeping Karma, Gas Giant and QotSA but these three guys are talented enough to present us their own influenced heavy brew., Mirador is a fine album, heavy, passionate, trippy and dirty, lots of fine hooks, all wrapped up in a powerful natural sounding production. They are on tour right now with Grandloom so go check them out and pick up this CD immediately. 92/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
