Band : Thalamus Three years after the very well received debut Beneath a dying sun (Grooveyard Records) Thalamus return with the classy Subteruge. And true to that debut this sophomore offering remains an excellent groovy rock workout. So, this Swedish quintet stick to their bluesy rock sound and boundlessly celebrate the music of the 70s. Well, musically Thalamus do not offer us anything ground-breaking new stuff, but what makes them stand out from the masses is the quality of their compositions. Dynamic and powerful songs that are excellent because of their variety and catch the flair of the time by being recorded with a Purple-organ which is nearly always present. Lead by Kjell Bergendahl’s powerful voice groovier songs ("Wheels Of Fire", “She sells desolation” and “Blind”), speedier tracks like “Still dancing on my grave” or also the more emotional cuts (“Intro”, “When Goblins cheer” and “Through the fields”) are far-above-average songs, well crafted and very well arranged, So who wants to get a really good 70s heavy rock album should try out Thalamus, you won't be disappointed, quite the contrary! 90/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
