We Came as Romans is an American metal core band from Michigan. The band was formed in 2005, when high school students Sean N. Zelda, David Stephens, Jonny Nabors, Mark Myatt, and Joshua Moore formed a band called This Emergency. Now front man, David Stephens played guitar during this period.

In November 2005, the band parted ways with bass player Jonny Nabors and replaced him with Sean E. Daly. Later on in June 2006, Zelda quit the band. In the summer of 2006, a close friend of the band, Larry Clark, officially joined on vocals and at that point the band changed the name officially to We Came as Roman”. On their latest (and second) release Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be, has the band going for a more 50/50 sound. You will hear a lot of Dave’s screams, but the majority of vocals on this record is Kyle’s singing clean. The rest of this record is in it’s own way different to the previous. They opted for a more melodic way than brutal. Not a bad decision, but also not the best ever. It’s more accessible now so marketing wise this could turn out good, although some fans might find this more melodic touch just plain rubbish.

Either way, this is a record you do have to listen a few times to and let it settle in a bit.

67/100
