Review: EP

Greek trio Amnis Nihili (P.-vokills, D.-electromagnetic pulse, and A.-battery commander), formed in 2008, debut with theChristological Escalation EP, which lasts for seventeen minutes. It will be released on vinyl (10”EP) and on compact disc (MCD) and the concept is motivated by the mockery of eschatology and anti-fundamentalist pragmatism. Not that strange at all for a Greek project to compose a theological / philosophical / … concept with a misanthropic, anti-religious or anti-human base, instead of writing infantile lyrics that cheaply deal with sex with Satan (Hell is a whorehouse), anal sadism (raping one’s ass with a rusty drill) or splattered brains all over the church floor (who’s gonna clean the rotting body parts?)… (¹)
[(¹) important note to myself: texts about surgical-precise torture tactics, decomposing entrails or nihilistic HumanHateHurray are not pathetically stupid in each single case; luckily some bands do this with subtle supremacy]
The title track opens the right-in-your-face way. This is uncompromising and violent Black with a harsh, buzzing sound and a deathrashing fury. Towards the end, this song transforms into a haunting and mesmerizing Industrial Funeral Post-Doom Black Ambient piece (everything clear?), still breathing the same suffocative air. Further on there’s a droning Sludge-veined instrumental piece (Radiation), the ambiental way, and especially more chaotic and fierce, slightly industrialised Black Noise Metal with a horrifying approach (the samples, for example). Pretty varying yet undeniably equally morbid-minded…
