Review: compilation-DCD (re-release)

Originally, this compilation was released in 2009, and now it comes with new artwork and layout. It is not a newly recorded album yet a mostly interesting compilation! DemoSlaughter  gathers all six sold-out Cult demos (late eighties – early nineties), and on top of it, this double-album contains the legendary yet unreleased demo from Death Sentence, sort of pre-NunSlaughter, as well as rehearsal material.
We can discuss about the sound quality, but let’s say: if it bothers you, then shut up; if you don’t mind because of the legendary status of it: enjoy!
The compilation starts with the ’87-demo Ritual Of Darkness, which gets considered as one of the most influential demonstration recordings, purveying the core of Satanic (and black-edged) Death Metal. The The Rotting Christ-demo (1989) continues the very same path (with a few tracks re-recorded for this second demo), yet the sound is / was much worse, unfortunately. The third demo, 1991’s Impale The Soul Of Christ On The Inverted Cross Of Death, was the first with forming member Don of the Dead taking care of the vocal duties as well, and personally I think he fits better to NunSlaughter’s sound than his progenitor Gregoroth for adding a touch of Black Metal to the blaspheme Death-creations. Next: Ritual Of Darkness got also available on vinyl, yet in a bootlegged edition; The Guts Of Christ-demo, recorded completely live in the band’s living room exploring new horizons (without betraying the roots), Face Of Evil (1995; with the original line-up reunited again) etc.
Bonus material: taken from 7”EP’s, split-EP’s (the band did many splits with bands like Dekapitator, Derketa, Bloodsick, Nocturnal and so on) and rehearsing sessions…
And finally this, to stimulate your blood-lusting appetite: 2011 will see the release of a couple of new splits (with e.g. Belgian Grind-masters Agathocles, Abigail and Nekrofilth) and probably a new full length as well (new tracks have been recorded in mean time) – and apparently NunSlaughter are working on a sound-score for an underground horror movie…
