Band : Daturana It seems that German Daturana already can look back at a CD from the year 2009, which I know nothing about, but apparently had received quite split reviews. Now the quintet is around with its second full length Crossroad Man via the best stoner psych label Nasoni. The Crossroad Man CD opens with “Insane pain” an interesting combination of flowing melodic space rock and dub rhythms. Daturana excels at creating beautifully flowing spacey psychedelic excursions that are peaceful, melodic and mind expanding. The songs are simplistic in their construction, but powerful in their communication. And in this sense Mehdi Ghanbar brings to mind Dave Gilmour, a guitarist who could say more in a handful of notes than most guitarists in the shredding neo-metal compartment could say in a thousand. Excellent dreamy and rockin' acid space from this German fivesome who takes the styles we love and put their own personal stamp on them.. Gunar Mutlitz has a voice most similar to Jim Morrison - maybe not quite so deep and resonant, but Gunar uses the same sort of intonation. It works well here, and for that reason alone I'd say Daturana is worthy of checking out. 90/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
