With a sound very much like that of Pink Floyd, Muse, Oceansize or Rush , Dream The Electric Sleep’s debut shows a great deal of maturity. This disc is a melodic indie prog rock lover's ‘dream’. The CD start strongly with the title track, “Coal dust and shadows” and the soothing “Canary”, a modern progressive rock song, but continues in an unexpected way with the flying “The joneses”, “Roots and fear” and “Stay on the line” where the band combines their general prog sound with nu metal, doom and crossover elements. Whether the band is expressing themselves through well structured songwriting or using beautiful soothing tranquil tracks such as the well placed “Canary”, “Echoes chasing echoes”  and “In two minds”, the band never fails to convey the proper mood. Subtle layering of acoustic and electric guitars, banjo and emotive singing coupled with beautifully crafted minor mode melodies, create an atmosphere that quite literally stirs the mind. Lost And Gone Forever is a true concept album, with a lot of thought and work having gone into a meaningful structure that most other bands these days can only ‘dream’ of. Sometimes a little less singing would have emphasized their prog style better, leave it to indie bands, but on the whole, this is a work that doesn't need any comparisons to other contemporary rock bands.

Standing only at the very beginning of their career, Dream The Electric Sleep can pride themselves in having recorded a really good first long player, promising more wonderful things to come in the future. ...
