Band : Grönholm This is a record that is a bit difficult to review, because as a matter of fact this is two albums in one record. The reason I say this is because the first six tracks are a mix of hard rock and metal, whilst the last four are tracks which feature an acoustic and orchestral arrangement. Track 7, ‘Giant Step’ could be described as a transitory track between the first part of the album, and the second part. Now down to the ‘band’. Well, it’s not really a band, but rather a project by Mika Grönholm, and if I’m not mistaken this is the second album they release. Vocals were done by Markku Kuikka (Status Minor) and drums were played by Tom Rask. Additional flavour was added through guest performances by Billy Sherwood (ex Yes) and Marco Hietala (Nightwish/Tarot). The first time I played the album I was quite unsure what to think of it. But after a few spins it grew on me, and although not being an album that would feature in my most wanted list, it has certain qualities, beginning with it’s originality by being so diverse in styles. For those wanting to try something special. 85/100 Erik Morren. |
