Wolfcrusher is quite a new English metal band that stands for melodic, groove, pure death metal. These five fellows from Manchester only put on their first show in December and now they feel ready to release their first album onto this world, which is entitled Virgin Tapestry.
Wolfcrusher is the child of guitarist Dan Mucs, who truly is a mastermind when it comes to pounding guitar riffs and mind-blowing melodies. On Virgin Tapestry, he proves this to the extreme.
Of course, a good album is not just about the melodies and instruments. The vocals mostly decide whether a band stands or falls. Unfortunately, from the start on, we get the feeling that something just isn't as it should be. The cause for this feeling is to be found in the vocals. The music and instruments are very well mastered, but the vocals are just not that good.
On songs such as Reborn and Moving Mountains we sometimes get the feeling that Korn and Cannibal Corpse have been sitting together to create a brand new genre mixed album. This is wonderfully well done, except for the vocals, once again, which is a big shame.
All in all, with Virgin Tapestry, Wolfcrusher were able to prove that the music they bring is very good, so they definitely deserve some credit for future albums.
