Obscura was founded in 2002 by Steffen Kummerer, and yes it does ring a bell, the band was named after “The Gorguts” album “Obscura. Later on in 2006 the band self-released their debut album called “Retribution”. This was followed up with an a European headlining tour through East and South Europe followed in 2007. But it wasn’t until 2009 that the band found a steady line up, finally “complete” the band started working on their upcoming. Fans in the States will already be enjoying this one the 29th, but fans in Europe will have to wait till the first of April
With “Omnivium,” this German band proves to be in the top of the technical death metal empire. The band brings once again fast and bizarre complex guitar work under the banner of death metal, a space theme and progressive metal. All songs show various sounds, themes and different influences but these master musicians have somehow mastered the skill to make it all blend into one big whole package. The only thing I personally didn’t like was there sound here and there than could have been taken more care of, but on the other hand don’t really know that much about death metal and that this was intentional.
A death metal feast for fans and lovers of the genre a like. Others will probably let this one pass by as the “o so complex brain melting musicianship” can be to much for some, this is so dangerous they have to call it death metal.
