Skulldriver started back in 1999 in Liljendal, Finland where Kuli and Karda where about 16 years old, they started jamming together with their friend Joni Kosonen (who now plays guitar in a band called Circle of Contempt). They started a band called Infiltrator but played mostly covers. Unfortunately this didn’t lasted so long because Joni moved away with his parents. A little later on Karda joined the duo and the three of them hit it of immediately. The guys started looking for a bass player and after a while an old friend called Jocke. The line up was completed after Pede and Tomi Joined.
From then on the band has just been playing gigs, released an EP in 2007 and a full length album last year consisting of old and new material. And so in January 2010 Facts, Fictions and “Fucked up Situations” came to life. The album has been out for quite a while but only know after working hard for it, the album is slowly coming all the way from Finland to other regions in Europe.
The album can best be described as partly groove and partly melodic. The groove section can be best described as an attempt to recreate Pantera’s more southern rock like riffs while the melodic elements find their roots in bands like All That Remains. However still being a band from northern Europe, extreme death metal riffs do pass by on this one. In the end, there are some cool songs on this record, but in the end this record doesn’t really impress me.
78/100
