Easily one of the most exhilarating bands to come down the pipe in a very long time, this UK quartet Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats once again showcase why they so deserve their abundance of critical acclaim with Mind Control. Seeing Uncle Acid at Roadburn last week was an ultimate joy and one of the highlights for sure.

This nine-track offering is a majestic, psychedelic masterpiece from beginning to end, complete with sweeping melodies, lush atmospheric elements, and a hearty helping of retro rock that ranges from hypnotic occult-ness of "Valley of the dolls" to driving, Stooges-influenced "Mind crawler”.

Perhaps the best way to describe the sound of Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats is to imagine Black Sabbath if they were heavily Velvet Underground-influenced, while watching a Russ Meyer-movie. If you can imagine that sound, and if you think you'd like it, then Mind Control might be right up your alley. It's pure psych rock with no frills, no edgy alternative angles and no apologies.
