This will be a quick one, this review. Tyrania are an act from Ukraine that brings so-called ‘Sympho Gothic Metal’. And that’s correct. But you have quite a large scene, so the question is: where will Tyrania be placed?

And then we come to elements like originality, craftsmanship, song writing abilities, catchiness, performance skills, the equilibrium in between old schooled tradition and modernistic progression, the level of melody, persuasion, influences, and so on, and so on. And that’s quite a tricky thing to analyse, especially when trying to be an honest, ‘objective’ reviewer. I did put the work objective in between ‘-things (is there a word for these? Probably yes, but who f*ckin’ cares about that right now) – so anyway, I think Pallid Muse is an album filled with clichés and predictable elements, lacking of originality, lacking of balls, yet with the best intentions, some grandiose ideas and quite some variation. I do not doubt about this band’s ability to ‘perform’, but I am afraid the song writing needs some more, eh, persuasion and maturity. To be honest, I think the back lines are great, but it bores the sh*t out of me. All those clichés (operatic female voices in interplay with dull grunts; infantile guitar leads; and so on…), those predictable structures, and what bores / bothers me the most: those modernised (sometimes electronic) injections, the fake melodies and leads, the predictability and the clinical sound.

Is it so bad then? No, actually it is not, for Tyrania have put some great moments too. I can appreciate the intermezzos, for example, that act like a muscled counter-balance to the catchy ‘Metal’-moments. Unfortunately (but once again, this might be my personal opinion, but since I am the reviewer I can add whatever I want to) these moments are inferior to the boredom-creating and would-be identity of this band.
