Grime

Grime started its mission in Italy somewhere during summer 2010. Their goal was bringing destruction to a town near yours with their doom like metal music. They themselves describe their sound as rooted into rotten burial grounds and their songs are the sound of a decaying swamp filled with trash. Now that is a statement they actually live up to. Their slow and heavy groove is filthy and vicious, guitar riffs are sharp but somehow maintain that muddy feeling that doom metal has.

Hod

Despite the title, The Uncreated Demo isn’t just a demonstrational effort by Hod. It’s a real teaser for the upcoming Book Of The Worm album, which will come out later this year (I hope I will have the opportunity to review the stuff, dear website’s Master Chief). I was, for your interest, pleased and surprised by Serpent, which came out at the very end of 2009 (see review posted on March 13th 2010).

The Body

One of Mother Earth’s most eerie Doom acts is this two-piece, The Body, consisting of Lee Buford and Chip King. Again the duo recorded its new material at Machines With Magnets, and additional vocal contribution was provided by e.g. Reba Mitchell (Whore Paint), Otesanek’s Leslie Weitz, and Chrissy Wolpert (of Assembly Of Light Choir).

Laurasia Awaits Us

The cover artwork hints at postblack metal, but you can expect much more. Many tracks use a black metal frame but generally allow for many other genres. Already the ingenious opener “Stillborn motivation” where you can find next to some post rock also a few shoegaze sounds, makes you hungry for more. This high quality level is maintained throughout the album, and the songs are splendidly filled with breaks. Symphonic arrangements, dramatic passages, ambient influences and some evil metal outbursts guarantee a multi-layered listening experience.

I Klatus

I Klatus is an interesting concept. Essentially the brainchild of one man known as guitarist/vocalist/visual artist Tom Denny with enlisted help from various guest musicians all over the Chicago doom scene such as Chris Wozniak (Lair of the Minotaur, Earthen Grave), John Bomher (Yakuza, Indian) Leon del Muerte (Intronaut), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza) and others, the band's output must be heard to really be understood.

Thinning The Herd

Following their debut EP and debut LP, Oceans Rise, founding Thinning The Herd vocalist/guitarist Gavin Spielman recruited a new rhythm section in 2012, bringing bassist Wes Edmonds and drummer Rick Cimato (ex-Locked In A Vacancy) on board.

Various Artists: Keep Our Heads

The DIY record label Eolian Empire (a side-label of Earsplit Records) is back after some years of silence and is about to release their most ambitious record to date: a compilation record covering 26 underground bands from their area, called Keep Our Heads. The compilation contains all rock and metal genres, from doom to rock to thrash to hardcore and to many more guitar oriented genres.
