This new young prog rock duo band has probably listened to Porcupine Tree, Yes, Pink Floyd and Genesis a lot; the latter being a rather obvious influence as the drummer-singer of Sound of Contact is Simon Collins who is the son of Phil.

“Cosmic dance ladder” is the instrumental and this one is a true prog metal song, filled with staccato riffs, amazing guitar parts and outstanding keyboard melodies. During “”Pale blue dot” and “Remote view” the synths tends to get more dominant and because of that, the music sounds much more like Genesis during those two tracks. The absolute failure on this CD is the boring song “Breathing out” but if you skip that one then you can enjoy a rather great prog metal album. “Closer to you” is were the power is put to a stop, it's a beautiful song with soul..  A good song to catch a bit of breath before the Porcupine Tree-like “Omega point” and the 20 minute “Mobius slip” really lifts this album. The album has throughout very high quality, but it's the epic closer “Mobius slip” where Simon and Dave Kerzner (keyboards) are surpassing themselves as artists. It would be to easy to brand this band as just another Genesis clone although if I had to sum it all up, then the music is less complicated and more in service of the song. One thing that is almost exactly alike are the vocals, as Simon sounds a lot like his father and I must say that Simons’ voice is more pleasant to listen to.  The songs are complex, but not stuffed with technical extravaganza and they have certainly maintained an overview keeping all within acceptable boundaries.

If Sound of Contact is able to develop their style a bit more, then I promise Simon Collins and Dave Kerzner a great future.
