Grimwald

A while ago I did write a review for the split Saturnia Tellus… Memories From The Eternal Cult, a collaboration of three Italian acts, released on Ukrainian high-quality label Vacula Productions. In case you might be interested to read this highly professional review, check the site’s update on March 26th 2015. Amongst those bands: Grimwald, an act from the city of Turin that released one single full length in mean time, 2012’s Über Grimlands Düsteren Wäldern (independently released).

Deviator

Deviator are a project from Ukraine around Dmitry ‘Lord Hastner’ Kundelski. As from 2007, there were quite some releases (demos, some contributions to splits, some singles / EPs, and two full lengths; compilations and this specific album not included). A couple of months ago, I wrote a review for the compilation To Forgotten Path – Triumph Of The Will, published on October 11th 2014, released via Pesttanz Klangschmiede. But the last ‘real’ full length release dates from 2012, actually.

Ad Noctem Funeriis

Ad Noctem Funeriis (to my limited knowledge of the Latin language [sorry but I didn’t speak it anymore since about twenty centuries…] this moniker has been misspelled, but who cares about that) are an Italian act that contributed on a split with defunct Italian band Propaganda in 2008, and that released a first album in very early 2009 (…of Evil and Torment, via Salute Records). Then things went silent, but eventually the band entered the studio again in Winter 2014 in order to record their second full length album.

HexenHammer’s Flame

Okay, despite the fact that this release is quite ‘aged’ – it was actually recorded as from Autumn 2011 to Summer 2013, and released via Vacula Productions (and Narbentage Produktionen) in Autumn 2014 – it deserves all attention it needs (the same goes for the mighty Ukraine-based label, which is, to my opinion, unfortunately underestimated).

Aeonless

Aeonless are a new project by Georgi Georgiev, one of the most productive guys within the Bulgarian netherworlds. You will surely recognize bands / projects like Calth, Raggradahr, Perverse Monastyr or Forgotten Forests if you do follow the Bulgaria-based underground scene. For this specific project, Georgi joined forces with a same-minded guy from Finland, Jori Hautala, who ‘sings’ in Aeonless (+ some synths).

Labyrinth Spell

Labyrinth Spell are a Brazilian act that started in 2000. But despite a decade and a half of existence, they were not quite active with only a limited amount of demonstrational recordings. In 2012 and 2013 the quintet recorded their debut full length studio album (at the Gramute Studio in their home country), which was eventually independently released in 2013.

The Ukrainian label Vacula Productions, home to many great acts, decided to re-issue this material the decent way on CD. Eternal thanks!

Old Pagan

In the past twenty years, Saarland-based act Old Pagan did release quite some stuff, amongst three full length studio albums; this review deals with the latest one the band did. The experienced band (the members are involved with several other notorious underground bands) took a break during the second half of last decade, but since a couple of years they seem to even more productive / active than ever before.

Licurgo

Vacula Productions did surprise me a lot last year and this year with quite some hands full of fine releases, such as Grimwald, Aeons Ov Frost, Nyx, Northern Tod or (evidently) Emptiness Soul, amongst many others. Just click on the label’s name on top of this review to check out some other reviews undersigned did for this Ukrainian label.

Todgeweiht

There are a couple of (German) bands with the moniker Todgeweiht, but this one deals with the duo from Thuringia, Grimwald and BluothArn. They started more than a decade ago, but didn’t release but two demos (one was even never officially distributed) as well as one full album. That album, called Pestilenz, was initially supposed to be part of a split with Winternight, nowadays known as Wintarnaht.
