Carnal Denial is a new outfit by Przemysław ‘Sadox’ Grochowski, owner of the labels GoH Recordings (previously known as Gates Of Hypnos) and Militant Liturgy, and involved with tens of sick acts, such as Sado Rituals, Rekollektor, His Haunted Humming, Holy Hermit Humming, Hailing Her Heavens, Crepuscular Rituals (a collaboration with Ken Jamison), Lazy As Molester / Lazy Ass Molester, Ill Habitat Settler, P~R~Z, The Desert Fathers (which he ‘runs’ with Scott Lawlor), Space Emperor Xennu, Sadopraxia (with Piotr Raszewski), Sweet Daughter & Son Of A Bitch (old collab with Antonella Eye Porcelluzzi), and maybe I forgot some others…
This new project is, dixit the bio, dedicated to chastity, running from pleasures of the flesh and nuns. I guess it is like a therapeutical outlet to canalize a painful struggle against self. This untitled (or self-titled) debut gets released via Militant Liturgy, a sub-label of Gates Of Hypnos (as mentioned, now called GoH Recordings) that focuses on Christian-Orthodox themed Harsh Noise / Industrial / Dark Ambient / Electronics / Drone / Ambient Noise Wall / … stuff. That religious character shows through the visual art too, being a black-and-white picture of two nuns looking at a sleeping maiden (I guess it’s a still from some movie, but I have no idea where it might come from).
From music(k)al point, Carnal Denial is a three-piece work, consisting of three elegies that clock exactly 21:04 minutes each. Labeled as purist HNW work, loud and abrasive, my hope for harmony and transcendence faded away immediately. And damn, I was right… All three songs… Nope, I can’t call it ‘songs’; forgive me… All three efforts are, each of them, prolonged, monotone, one-directional Harsh Noise pieces, devastating walls of sound pollution. And to make it comfortable (so is the aural artistry too, as you can imagine), for one’s ease, the three of them are called Carnal Denial 1, Carnal Denial 2 and Carnal Denial 3 respectively. The first part is an uncompromising, relentless expression of penitence, dry as desert sand, sharp like minuscule pieces of broken crystal. The second chapter has a more Ambiental approach, like a rainy dronework with, why not, a mesmeric character. The last fragment returns towards a thunderous and crepitating core of castigating self-flagellating grandeur.
What the project Carnal Denial stands for is Harsh Noise Wall in its most static nucleus, motionless and, at the very same time, insurmountably crushing. Amen!
