Mastic Scum

Austria’s Mastic Scum recently celebrated their twentieth anniversary, but the energy the members inject in their songs are far away from ‘guys being old’. The band has always been one of my favourite Alpine Grind / Death combos, with a hand full of great releases on their discography, appearing every three or four years.

Crystal Tears

Søren Adamsen (Vocals, 2012- ), Kostas Sotos (Guitar, 1997 - ), Mate Nagy (Guitar, 2012 - ), Alex Hamalidis (Bass, 1997 - ) and Chrisafis Tantanozis (Drums, 1997 - ). After some years en several demo’s made their first album "Choirs Of Immortal" in 2006. Played on stages with W.A.S.P., Riot and Jag Panzer and making power/speed metal.

Stormwarrior

Stormwarrior is a German speed metal band that was formed in 1998 by vocalist and guitar player Lars Ramcke and his companion/drummer Andre Schumann. Later on in the same year, guitarist Scott Bolter and bass player Tim Zienert join the band.

Rustfield

Kingdomes of Rust is a fairly good debut album where prog, symphonic, power and heavy metal and electronic ambient passages flow into each other, effortlessly it seems. The vocals could have been much better, especially the Italian accent is scary, Of the more prog metal tunes “Waxhopes” definitely sticks out, with some blowing guitarsolos and some great harmonic bass tapping. But in the end the 12 tracks stretch unimpressive musical ideas far too thin, and the instrumental sections never build into anything really exciting building a real kingdom of rust.

Tuxedo

Hah...now there's a novel thing: a band describing themselves as “Austrian Alpencore”. As to what that entails, I will tell you later...first we do the history bit, okay?

Metal Inquisitor

Metal Inquisitor was founded in 1998 by Blumi and Witchhammer. The idea behind the band was to play classic, traditional heavy metal. After some time the gang assigned Kronos for the bass guitar and El Rojo as the singer.

Ewigheim

(intro based on my review of last year’s Bereue Nichts-album; for full review: see update within the Archives, posted on October 31st 2012)

Crystal Ball

The Swiss band Crystal Ball is a power/heavy metal band that once again surfaces. Following a 6 year hiatus, a new album "Dawnbreaker" was finally released this year. Their sound can best be described as a blend of classic Heavy Metal, euro-Rock and melodic Power Metal. But this album reminds me the most of bands like Firewind, if that helps to compare them to something you know.

Mystic Prophecy

Mystic Prophecy is a power metal band that comes from Germany. The band was formed R.D. Liapakis and Martin Albrecht. Gus G. was also part of this outfit, he played all guitars on their three first albums, but left in 2005 to spend more time in his other band Firewind. But do to other line up changes, the band almost gave up. Luckily for the fans, they kept going and just got stronger and stronger.
