Sparta a NWOBHM band who’s history goes back to 1979! decided to record a new album after a successful re-release of their old ( obscure) stuff via the HIGHROLLER RECORDS LABEL. Begs the question if this was a good idea….. I would say yes and no….. The answer is YES because even in 2014 there is room for uncomplicated metal brought in an uncomplicated manner. The answer is NO because this album also reveals why Sparta where not amongst the chosen few the first time around “ Welcome to hell “ is one of these albums where I am constantly thinking where do I know this riff from. The song titles also sound pretty familiar to any metalhead ( “welcome to hell’, “soldier of fortune, “rock”n roll rebel’ , “angel of death” ) and the lyrics seem to have been put together using the great book of rhymes and other cliché’s….Still for some strange reason I dig this album because it’s 200% nostalgia….. 70/100 but for NWOBHM geeks only.
