Crystal Ball

The Swiss band Crystal Ball is a power/heavy metal band that once again surfaces. Following a 6 year hiatus, a new album "Dawnbreaker" was finally released this year. Their sound can best be described as a blend of classic Heavy Metal, euro-Rock and melodic Power Metal. But this album reminds me the most of bands like Firewind, if that helps to compare them to something you know.

Ready Set Fall

Ready, Set , Fall, an Italian band playing Swedish melodic death with American metalcore and a strong preference for agile variability. Five members: Marco Pochettino (drums), Giovanni Santolla (Bass/vocals), Christopher Volpi (vocals), Francesco Scaravelli (guitar) and Frank Mossa (guitar).

Vengeance

Dutch band Vengeance have been around since 1983 already, but if you don’t count the album that was only released in Japan, and the live album, this is only their eleventh album.  Line-up changes have been countless over the years, but with one or two constants always returning, that being singer Leon Goewie –  he’s been replaced one some occasions, and guitarist Jan Somers.  Sadly enough Jan Somers died in 2011 from a heart attack, but his son Timo who had already played in the band together with his fathe

Psycho 44

Psych 44 is a stoner/garage rock band with electronic influences from Antwerp, Belgium. After reaching the finals of HUMO’s Rock Rally in 2010, they released their first EP “Demon” in 2011.

Kayser

Kayser funded in 2004 when Spice (ex-Spiritual Beggars), Mattias Svensson (also The Defaced), Bob Ruben (ex The Mushroom River Band) and Fredrik Finnander decided to join forces to create a pure metal band. The 100% Swedish pure metal band returned after their last album “Frame The World…Hang It On The Wall” (2006).

Darkhaus

If I were to tell you off hand, that this band has two members of the legendary Hardcore outfit Pro-Pain in its midst (namely bassist Gary Meskil and rhythm guitarist Marshall Stephens), what type of music would you expect this band to play? Well, you would be quite mistaken there, I daresay, because what Darhaus brings is a relatively commercial type of Syth Rock!

Mystic Prophecy

Mystic Prophecy is a power metal band that comes from Germany. The band was formed R.D. Liapakis and Martin Albrecht. Gus G. was also part of this outfit, he played all guitars on their three first albums, but left in 2005 to spend more time in his other band Firewind. But do to other line up changes, the band almost gave up. Luckily for the fans, they kept going and just got stronger and stronger.

Outrage

Oh my goodness...Outrage really is one of those well-used names in the Metal world, with at least 14 other bands (3 each from the US and Canada, two each from Germany and Australia, and one each from Turkey, Japan, and Finland) than this Death Metal act calling (or having called) themselves so!

Impending Doom

And so, I am again reviewing an album which would normally have been worked on by my revered Death Metal specialist colleague Ivan, due to the fact that our editor-in-chief overlooked passing the album onto him and, because he already had put enough on the poor dude's slate, subsequently put it on mine...using the (absolutely valid) excuse that occasionally all the work is getting at him (of course, that relates in the first place to the daytime job, which sees him left with so little free time he's occasionally sleepwalking on his days off!).

Die Krupps

Unbelievable...the event which millions of Die Krupps fans had been anticipating for a decade and a half has finally happened : their favourite band finally made a follow-up full-length for their great 1997 studio album Paradise Now!
