Down Among The Dead Men

Down Among The Dead Men (question: named after the so-called The Lord Weird Slough Feg 2000-record, or the eighteenth-century John Dyer song; there are a couple of scriptures (i.e. books, novels, stories) too with this moniker, by the way) is a new project, which shamelessly can be labelled as ‘super-group’. Why? Because of the members. Down Among The Dead Men were formed by two extremely skilled and well-known Extreme Metal musicians (both of them wrote the music for this first album).

Alehammer

Alehammer are a combo with former and / or current members from e.g. Impulse Manslaughter, Prophecy Of Doom, Extinction Of Mankind and Hellkrusher. They released a 10”EP in 2007, called Mine’s A Pint Of Crust (via Italy’s Agipunk, with acts like Prophecy Of Doom and Children Of Technology on its roster), and in 2009 there was a split with Sweden’s Tyrant, also via this Agipunk-label.

Grime

Italian act Grime recorded the debut-album Deteriorate (total running time: forty one minutes) at Igloo Audiofactory with Enrico Baraldi, and it got mixed and mastered by one of the most experienced guys within this specific scene, Billy Anderson (known for his studio work with, for example, Neurosis, AmenRa, Ramesses, Dragged Into Sunlight, Brutal Truth and tens of others).

Aetherium Mors

Almost ten years ago, Aetherium Mors from the U.K. were founded by Kane Nelson (vocals) and Dan Cough (instruments) in order to pay tribute to the likes of Carcass, Death, At The Gates, Dissection etc. The initial line-up, however, didn’t hold (due to a lack of interest or persuasion or appreciation by the other members), and the duo went on as a studio-only project. Both of them, by the way, also got involved by other musical outlets.

Theologian

Concreteweb is a Rock and -especially- Metal-oriented site. But more than once, one of the reviewers comes with something that isn’t quite ‘Metal’. Since we’re an independent site, we can do whatever we want, so if you have a problem with this, please [self-censorship ;-)]

Kataklysm

Canada is one of my preferred countries when it comes to icy and Nordic Black Metal (with the Québec-era as one of the most outstanding ones, by the way). But I am also extremely ‘fan’ of the Canadian Death Metal scene, for this one is one of the most honest and pure ones in Mater Terra’s history. It would be stupid to list up the bands I do like, but one of my favourites for sure has always been Montreal-based Kataklysm.

Eternal Solstice

The Wish Is Father To The Thought was the debut studio full album by Dutch band Eternal Solstice, originally released in 1994 via Musikfabrik, and very shortly after re-issued via Displeased Records (and for the vinyl-freaks: Dark Descent Records re-released the stuff on LP in 2012).

Devin Townsend Project

Devin Garret Townsend must be one of Canada’s most active persons within the Extreme Metal scene. As teenager, he played in a couple of bands, and one of those, called Noisescapes, drew attention of Steve Vai, who asked him to help him out with his upcoming album.

Paradise Lost

First of all: no massive introduction, for everyone knows this band, and nobody will accept the current Metal scene without the influence once initiated by these Englishmen. I was extremely ‘into’ this band’s music in the beginning of their history (I sort of lost it after Gothic / Icon), but the band for sure is one of the most popular and influential acts on Mater Terra Metalica.

Lamia Culta

Lamia Culta are a project from the city of Lviv, Ukraine, formed almost a decade ago. The first album was called Patre Satane (self-released in 2009, re-released in 2011 via More Hate Productions from Russia) and brought a bombastic, majestic and occult form of Symphonic Black Metal. In mean time, however, Lamia Culta evolved from a band (which included former / current / session / live members from e.g.
