Bob Wayne

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest of the US (Seattle, to be precise), Bob Wayne hit the road as a youngster selling t-shirts for Zeke, and having tasted of life on tour he next became guitar tech for Hank III. Touring with that band he became more and more infatuated with Country Music, and when one day the band arrived in Nashville...which still passes for the World's Capitol of Country Music, he decided to take some roots there.

Beyond Violet

This Dutch female fronted band was founded in 2008, and this is their first work to be released, under the form of an EP.

Their music can best be described as melodic metal.  The vocals are good, but in my opinion lack a bit of variety. The tracks are good as well, but no song lingers on,  even after a few listening. Conclusion: it’s not bad for a first release, but it won’t kick in any doors.

Bâtard

Chaos & Hibernation is not a new album but it compiles both demos done by Canadian act Bâtard, Chaos / Ultra (2011) and Hibernation (2013). It will be released in a limited edition, so you need to hurry up in case you’re interested!

Avery Sunshine

Sometimes I dó wonder why our editor-in-chief downloads certain things for review! Sure, he's a much-occupied man, and downloading is a chore which comes atop of his daytime job and the other duties entailed with part-time band managing. But occasionally he shoùld check the enclosed info sheet which comes with the downloads! So, what he would've learned right-off, is that singer-songwriter/ pianist Avery Sunshine makes feel-good music with a Gospel-fed, thunderous voice!

Attack Of Rage / Contrastic

Attack Of Rage hail from Slovakia and were formed in 2001 as a quartet under the name of The Chliew. In 2005 and 2006, already as Attack Of Rage, they send out two promotional recordings, which eventually resulted in a contract with Czech Grind / Death label Grodhaisn, which released the band’s debut, the mini-album Grindpeace, in 2007.

Antiquus Scriptum

Antiquus Scriptum were formed at the end of last century by Jorge ‘Sacerdos Magus’ Magalhães, after he left Firstborn Evil. He had some ideas for quite some time that didn’t quite fit to the style of Firstborn Evil, so he took the decision to leave (somewhere in 1998) and to start his own (solo) project.

Veni Domine

Although this band has been around for some 25 years, and having so far released six studio albums, I’d never heard of them.  And after listening to this new album, my opinion is still unclear.  Have I missed something by not having heard of them before or not.

various artists

Kaotoxin Records are one of those labels that comes with an enormous variety in releases, though mainly Death Metal and Grindcore-based. One of the genres they are known for is the Grindcore-scene.

Triptykon

Triptykon is a musical project of Thomas Gabriel Fischer, founding member of the pioneering heavy metal bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Apollyon Sun. Fischer announced his departure from Celtic Frost in May 2008 and shortly afterwards revealed his new project would be entitled Triptykon.

Timo Tolkki’s Avalon

Formerly a member of Stratovarius, guitar wizard Timo Tollki with his new band/project Timo Tollki’s Avalon are in a period a bit longer than one year, already at their second release.  Since the first album received good reviews, I was surprised if this second album was going to be another success, or instead couldn’t stand up to it’s expectations.
