Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel is some kind of compilation, or as Jeff Walker states ‘tying up loose ends’. This EP consists of previously unreleased songs taken from the Surgical Steel-recording sessions (though there have been some occasions to meet this stuff, like the Japanese edition, if I am not mistaken), but considered to be too good not to use.
A.П. are a Russian act that, if I am not mistaken, have this EP as sole official release. The stuff was recorded at the Premier Studio, and the ten tracks last for just under eighteen minutes only. Indeed, it means ten short songs.
So we have an instrumental rock band here witch consists of Giacomo Castellano, Gianni Rojatti, Erik Tulissio and Dado Neri. So I reckon this is probably an Italian project… I say reckon because once again we are dealing with a band that wants to remain of the internet as much as it can. Only a very limited facebook page and a website my mom could have made… Underground or not, I love it. The only thing i hate about it is that it’s to short. Its melodic, groovy and has a nice rock vibe going.
If the longest track on a 6 song ep is 2’.27” then one conclusion can already be that we’re not talking about a Doom Metal band…..
Okay, so let's put it straight-forward from the get-go, that this is nót about the '90s Canadian Hard Rock/ Glam Metal/ Heavy Metal act which left us two rather different albums (1992's eponymous album and 1995's Inwire, both released through major label BMG's subsidiary Ariola) before disbanding in 1996 (they actually reformed in 2007, and even recorded one gig which is planned for release on DVD in the future, but then their guitarist Dee Cernile died of lung cancer in 2012).
A Belgian band coming out of the closer with a 4 track EP (+intro) and describing themselves as “ dark , heavy, always melodic with a touch of Sludge“…. Surely gets my attention.
Black Autumn hail from North-Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and were formed by M. Krall in 1995. The first years the project did not release anything official, yet as from this century, Black Autumn turned out to be a rather productive entity. There were a couple of demos in between 2003 and 2006, as well as a split (with Italy’s Abyss), and in 2007 this solo-outfit released the debut full length, Ecstasy, Nightmare, Doom (ISO666). Three more full lengths followed, i.e.
Viverna are an Italian act that were formed by multi-instrumentalist Marco ‘XXXIX’ Trentanove, who formerly was in Funeral Marmoori and Sulfur. After a short period he was joined by Stefano ‘Magus Ater’ Bonini, also formerly in Sulfur, ex-Necromass, and currently active in Domini and Fangs Of The Molossus.
When I listened to Midnight’s debut album Satanic Royalty for the first time, I completely fell in love (of course of the most hateful kind) with the muSICK these guys were creating. Check the Hells Headbangers Special November 2011, posted on November 6th 2011 (including the likes of Speedwolf, Vladimirs, Sanguis Imperem and Embalmed).
The scene from New Zealand isn’t that known in our countries, and that’s a pity for there seems to be quite a vivid and interesting scene out there. 8 Foot Saliva, Ulcerate, Dawn Of Azazel and maybe a (child’s) hand full of others; everybody knows these, but there are plenty of superb bands and projects dwelling at the other side of Mater Terra (down under and then to the right…).
