I will keep it short this time, for this project does not need any introduction anymore; does it? God Body Disconnect is the main outfit by Bruce Moallem (also behind Vikorra Doom or Underwater Sleep Orchestra, and part of the Cryo Chamber Collaboration project). This album, even-though released almost half a year ago, is another milestone, and that’s why it deserves some additional support whatsoever.

Actually, Loss Within Loss is the eleventh release under the God Body Disconnect moniker (a great name, by the way), written and performed completely by Mister Moallem himself. The recording was done on ‘archaic’ VCR and cassette recorders, focusing on that ‘ancient’ sound that refers to the last decades of the former century somehow. It is a digital release, and there are 200 physical copies too, being a six-panel digipack compact disc. Once more, the artwork (representing the artificial coldness and distant connectedness of man’s life in our modernistic civilization) was done by label owner Simon Heath (both this project and the label did work together before many times), and Simon took care as well of the mastering duties.

It's 4 am again, in the city that never sleeps. In the hazy, never-ending loop of nostalgia and grief. And I’ve lost it all, everything that meant the world to me. I should have been different. In the deep of night, I know I should’ve been different.”

In the vein of the former stuff (there are some links below on reviews by some of the former releases), this one too deals with, and now I will steal some quotes from the label’s biography (with deep, humble respect to this label, evidently), ‘nostalgic noir textures’ [that] ‘form a world that is both warm and dreamy, yet deeply grounded in sadness’. For almost three quarters of an hour, Loss Within Loss guides us through spheres of nostalgic dreams, narrating about those places that once were warm, trusted, and safe. ‘So I drift, in warm dreams before the loss…’.

As from The Life I Took For Granted, the cinematic character arises from the muggy swamps of society’s underground. Badalamentian melodies and structures, post-soporific (as from now on this does exist) orchestrations, diverse samples (with spoken word passages), and melancholic doom-gazing sound-narrations create a bleak, despondent painting of a desolate world; a vision of isolationism in the middle of an unsettled environment. That’s the main setting for this sonic adventure, this intriguing yet heavy-burdened narrative aptly called Loss Within Loss. Doomed ambiences, breath-taking orbits-of-sphere, a realm of long-formed drones, elements from Post-Rock sound-sculpting; it’s like a soundtrack for oblivion and remembrance at the same time, for escapism and resurrection, for introspection and persistency.

Each piece tells its own story, but all thirteen chapters connect. One time it’s introvert, with distantly floating harmonies, somber piano melodies, Dungeon Synth based elements (listen, for example, to the hypnagogic fairness of If I Would’ve Changed) or deep basses; then again rather jazzy details enter, or Shoegaze-like fragments, dreamy synth-based passages (cf. a composition like Departed Moments Of Home), valiant segments (like the Post-Rock influenced piece The Angel With Charred Wings; mind the fine string-work and these inspirational percussion patterns), or mysterious Ambient sections with a levitating, then again a mystic atmosphere.

Once more, this God Body Disconnect effort is the soundtrack for guidance, accompaniment and inspiration through a world both known and unknown, familiar yet still fated, relaxing yet somehow troubled and convulsive. Introspective, confronting and arcane, yet from sonic side deeply moving, embracing, passionate…
